Fostering
Sometimes we ask for
Experienced Foster
Care for our Dogs
Fostering Information
FOSTERING CAN BE VERY
REWARDING AND WE ARE ALWAYS
LOOKING FOR EXPERIENCED, KIND,
PATIENT FAMILIES WITH WHOM TO
PLACE ABANDONED AND NEGLECTED
ANIMALS, SO THEY CAN RECUPERATE
IN SAFETY AND BE ASSESSED TO
FIND SUITABLE PERMANENT HOMES.
THE ANIMALS WHO COME TO US ARE
OFTEN DISTRESSED AND NERVOUS,
AND WILL NEED LOTS OF YOUR
TIME, SO WE LOOK FOR FOSTER
CARERS WHO ARE HOME FOR MOST
OF THE DAY AND ABLE TO DEVOTE
PLENTY OF LOVE AND CARE TO THE
DOG. GARDENS NEED TO BE SECURE
AND ANY OTHER PETS AND
CHILDREN WILL NEED TO BE
ACCEPTING, PATIENT AND KIND.
What is involved in Fostering?
Foster Carers need to be trained to help
rescued dogs to cope with the stress of moving
home, and to assist them in recovery and
rehabilitation where necessary. They will be
healthchecked, neutered, microchipped and
vaccinated as required, with the cost being
borne by Semper fidelis Domus or by
fundraising. Any other costs will be discussed
individually in accordance with circumstance
and the dog’s needs
Would I be a Suitable Foster
Carer?
A number of our Foster Carers become so
attached to their charges that they adopt them
- and we end up losing a Carer! This means
that we are always looking for experienced dog
owners who can offer the right support and
home life. Rescued dogs have often suffered
trauma and sometimes physical injury. They
can be very nervous and require considerable
time and attention. We ask that Foster Carers
are at home for most of the day, and will not
leave their charges for more than four hours a
day in normal circumstances. Dogs will be
placed with Carers according to their needs -
be it with children or other pets. They must
have a secure garden and be prepared to give
the dog regular exercise and playtime, as well
as elementary obedience training
What should I do Next?
If you would like to become a Foster Carer,
please contact us to talk things through. We
will ask some questions of you that you might
feel are intrusive. Please bear in mind that we
will be entrusting a vulnerable creature into
your care, who may have had a horrendous life
to date. We also have duty of care to our
Carers and their Families and Pets, to only
place with you a dog who will fit in with your
existing arrangements.
